On September 7, Equifax, one of the three major credit bureaus, announced a "cybersecurity incident" that could potentially impact approximately 143 million U.S. Consumers.
Equifax stated that between mid-May and July, important information including names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some instances, driver's license numbers were stolen. In addition, approximately 209,000 U.S. consumers credit card numbers were also accessed.In response to this incident, Equifax has established a dedicated call center and website to handle consumer inquiries.
